Carlsbad Caverns National Park

New Mexico

Working closely with the National Park Service, I developed this permanent exhibition for the park’s visitor center. Through artifacts, interpretive graphics, and hands-on displays, visitors can explore the natural and cultural history of the park—both above and below the surface.

Designer: Split Rock Studios

Owner: National Park Service

An exhibit introduces visitors to Jim White, the explorer who brought national attention to Carlsbad Caverns.

Long before white people came to Carlsbad, Native people lived here and inscribed the rock walls. Visitors can watch a video about the tribes who share ancestral and modern connections with this landscape.

A large-scale model show the outline of the caverns. A scale replica of the visitor center sits at one end, with an elevator shaft reaching down.
