Poarch Band of Creek Indians Museum

Atmore, Alabama

Winner: Excellence in Label Writing, AAM

Winner: NAI Best Interpretive Media, Interior Exhibit

The exhibition weaves modern and historical content throughout, to communicate the tribe’s continuity. I worked closely with tribal members—including elders and youth groups—to create exhibits that celebrate the tribe’s history and future. I facilitated several community meetings to build tribal-wide support for the project.

Designer: Split Rock Studios

Owner: Poarch Band of Creek Indians

Oral histories are integrated throughout the exhibition. These voices of the ancestors are paired with digitized photos.

Visitors can enjoy an interactive about trade goods.

A display on trade shows how the arrival of white settlers in Alabama impacted the tribe.

The final gallery of the exhibition celebrates the tribe's hard-won federal recognition in 1984, and the legacy of that recognition.
